We would like to welcome you to the society and sincerely hope that you
enjoy singing with us.
![]() The society has fostered knowledge and appreciation of choral works in the local community for nearly sixty years, through meeting for rehearsals and giving public performances. Choir Schedule The choir year runs from the first Monday in September to the final concert in May. We perform three concerts each year, in which all members are expected to take part. Rehearsals The venue for rehearsals is the hall of Central Methodist Church in Glossop. It is situated next to the ambulance station on Chapel Street [SK13 8AT]. We meet every Monday (with a break for Christmas) from 7.30 - 9.30pm. We also have extra rehearsals in the week prior to a concert, on the Wednesday evening and on the Saturday afternoon before the concert. It is expected that members will attend regularly, in order to be well-prepared to give a good performance. Music Scores are owned or hired by the society and loaned to the members. At the first rehearsal, these are given out by the librarian. You are expected to hand in your copy at the end of the concert, so that it can be promptly returned. Members are invited to make suggestions for future repertoire, to the Chair. Once these have all been considered, the final selection will be made by our director. Subscriptions and Gift Aid All members are required to pay an annual subscription, which is set by the committee who also set a reduced rate for unwaged and student members. Our membership secretary will be happy to accept this in instalments, if you wish. Concerts 1 The first concert, in mid-November, is usually a collection of works which range from "songs from the shows", concert extracts from Gilbert and Sullivan or occasionally, premieres of compositions by our musical director. 2 On the second Saturday in December, we join with Tintwistle Band for a combined Carol Concert which is held in a local church. 3 Our final concert takes place in mid-May and the focus is generally on one significant choral work. Constitution The society is run by a Board of Directors (committee and officers) elected from the membership. There is a written constitution and an annual general meeting is held in September. Members are provided with a copy of the rules of the society when they join.
